US President Joe Biden's administration announced that it has been trying to contact the North Korean government since February, but has not yet received any response.

Officials said the US administration is trying to reach North Korea in several different ways to prevent tension in the region.

North Korea's nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs cause deep problems in its relations with the United States. Three meetings took place between former President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, but without concrete results.

In these negotiations, North Korea could not be persuaded to stop the nuclear weapons activities, which is the main demand of the USA and other Western countries.

End of news

The attempts of the USA to communicate with North Korea are made through the permanent representation of North Korea to the United Nations (UN), which is called the "New York Channel".

Speaking to the Reuters news agency, a US official said they have made "multiple attempts" to establish relations with North Korea, but that no meaningful contact has been made for some time in the last 12 months.

Biden described Kim as a "bandit" and put forward the condition that North Korea should get rid of its nuclear weapons in order to lift the heavy economic sanctions imposed by the United States and the UN.

But Kim continues to bring the military power of his country to the fore, claiming that they are producing a new array of weapons, such as more advanced long-range missiles, larger missile heads, spy satellites, and submarines capable of carrying nuclear weapons.

In addition, Kim calls on the US to give up "hostile policies".

During this week's visit to Japan and South Korea by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, the issue of North Korea's nuclear program is also expected to be discussed.
