Russian President Vladimir Putin has reacted sharply to US President Joe Biden's statement that he considers Putin a "murderer."
President Putin said in a statement on Russian TV that "only those who are like him can recognize him." Putin also challenged Biden to a dialogue on live TV.
President Putin has denied allegations that his security forces tried to assassinate opposition politician Alexei Navalny.
Biden also told ABC News in an interview that Putin would have to pay the price for his alleged interference in the 2020 US presidential election.

Russia has recalled its ambassador to the United States in a bid to prevent "irreparable damage" to relations between the two countries.
The Russian government says relations between the two countries have now reached a stalemate.
Biden was referring to a US intelligence report that said President Putin had approved a campaign to interfere in the US election in November last year. The report says that Russia tried to get Donald Trump to win the US presidential election.
Based on this report, the United States is expected to impose sanctions on Russia in the coming days.
What has President Putin said?
Rejecting President Biden's allegations, Putin used a popular Russian proverb that literally translates "what he says happens" to the English phrase "tax one to nine one" meaning "to recognize someone." So you have to be the same.

"I remember when we were kids arguing on the playground we used to say, 'You have to be like that to get to know someone,'" he said in a statement broadcast on state TV.
"And it's not just a coincidence, or just a child's saying or joke," Putin said. It has deep psychological meaning. We see our qualities in others and think that they are just like us. In this context, we look at the actions of the people and give our opinion.
President Putin has accused the United States of genocide against the American population and the use of atomic bombs in World War II to kill millions of civilians.
On Thursday evening, President Putin also challenged the US president for a direct dialogue on Friday or Monday.
He said "an open live debate" would be interesting for the American and Russian people.
Earlier, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said recent US allegations were baseless and would damage bilateral relations.
Announcing the recall of its ambassador, the Russian Foreign Ministry said: "The most important thing for us is how to mend fences between Russia and the United States because Washington has really put them in a dead end. '
What has President Biden promised?
President Biden told ABC that he had warned President Putin in late January that there could be a strong backlash for the alleged election interference.
"They have to pay the price," Biden said in an interview on Wednesday.

When asked what the consequences would be, he said, "You'll see soon enough." When asked if he thought Putin was "a killer," he said: "Yes, that's what I see."

White House spokeswoman Jane Sackie later told a news conference that relations between Russia and the United States would now be different from those under President Trump.
"Certainly the Russians will be held accountable for their actions," he said.
Is this the first bitter rhetoric between Putin and Biden?
Ten years ago today, when Biden was President Obama's Vice President and Vladimir Putin was then the caretaker Prime Minister of Russia, the two met in Moscow.
